What is the EDCO Youth Alternative?
- An alternative high school program which offers a supportive environment
for students who are Boston residents.
- An education program devoted to working individually with students to help
them grow and meet their education and job placement goals.
- A program that re-enrolls students in the Boston Public Schools
- A program that provides small, competency-based, accredited classes in regular
high school subjects (English, reading, math, history, science, art, computer
literacy, physical education) leading to a Boston Public School diploma.
- A program that links school and work sites to enable students to earn academic
credit for each course that is completed and credit for successful work performance.
- A program that provides students with supportive personal, school, and work
counseling.
Who are the students who attend the program?
- Boston residents.
- Youth who range in age from 16-21 and are in grades 9 thru 12.
- Youth who are at-risk, drop-outs, non-attenders, pregnant and/or parenting
teens who have their children enrolled in a licensed day care program.
- AFDC recipients, Department of Social Services (DSS) clients, Department
of Youth Services (DYS) clients, Boston Juvenile Court referrals (BJC).
- Low income family members.
How do students enroll in the EDCO program?
- Call to make an appointment.
- Attend three interviews.
- Complete application forms.
- Take reading, writing, and math tests.
- Provide required documents (e.g. birth certificate, social security card)
Where is the EDCO program located?
The EDCO Youth Alternative is located on the third floor at 650 Beacon Street
in Kenmore Square.The entrance to 650 Beacon Street is next to the MBTA Green
Line Kenmore Square exit and across the street from the Kenmore Square bus terminal.
Students can travel to the EDCO program MBTA Green Lines B, C, and D or city
buses #8, #8A, #57, #60, and #65.
